Cordon Cut Riesling
Wine
Mount Horrocks Cordon Cut Riesling is grown on the organic Cordon Cut Vineyard at Auburn in the Clare Valley, close to the Mount Horrocks cellar door.
At 340 metres elevation, significantly lower than the estate Alexander Vineyard, the Cordon Cut Vineyard is a warmer site. It produces richer wines.
Each year, late into the growing season, the fruit branches (cordons) are cut. Deprived of nutrients, the grapes begin to dry and raisin on the vine, which concentrates both the flavour and sugar levels of the berries.
The fruit is harvested on appearance and taste rather than technical analysis. It is picked in several passes of the vineyard, with each batch fermented separately. The ferment is halted leaving a considerable amount of residual sugar.
Light gold, Mount Horrocks Cordon Cut Riesling has ripe citrus flavours and vibrant acidity balancing its sugar intensity. Cellaring potential is eight years.
